About Me

Interim Chief Executive

I took up the role of interim Chief Executive in February 2024 and am proud to be working with you all and to be leading our organisation through a period of significant change. I am committed to seeing Hywel Dda succeed, not only as a leader and manager, but as a father and member of our local community. The experience of our patients, and their safety, is something I hold dear.

I am an experienced executive director with over 10 years’ experience at board level. I joined Hywel Dda in 2005 and  have had the pleasure of holding a range of director roles including as executive director of primary care, community, and mental health services. More recently, I held the role of medical director and deputy chief executive.

Having trained in Wales, New Zealand and England, I worked as a respiratory physician for over 15 years, and previously led the lung cancer service in west Wales.

I have significant experience of leading large scale, whole system strategy development and change programmes, including engagement and consultation with staff, public, partners, public representatives, and the media.

I led the Transforming Clinical Services programme in west Wales, engaging the support of senior clinicians in the agreement of our 20-year health and care strategy. This includes an ambition to move to a more social mode of health and well-being. Our strategy, A Healthier Mid and West Wales (opens in new tab) sets out our long term ambition for our region and will see care being delivered closer to home.

I’m passionate about leadership and the development of future leaders and was the Welsh lead for the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM), and am a trustee of the FMLM charity in the UK. I’m also an honorary professor at Swansea University Medical School.
